Pre Wedding Pooch Pamper

Grooming your pet so that they are wedding ready is a lovely way to bond with them and get them looking super smart for the big day.

While some pets may require professional grooming due to their coat length and type, others can be groomed at home, and some may need grooming in-between their professional sessions.

Knowing which tools to use, and how often to groom your pet can feel confusing, so we’ve pulled some tips together for you.

Slicker brush (Rectangle with a handle) Suitable for daily brushing and detangling knots. Use on medium and short haired and curly breeds too.

Rubber brush Suitable for daily brushing short haired breeds. A good finishing brush to catch the last remaining loose hairs. Stimulates oil production, can be used to massage the body too.

Undercoat rake (short metal looks like a razor) Suitable for dogs that moult frequently it removes loose hair from undercoat and top coat. Use carefully to avoid discomfort.

Metal comb (long metal comb with long teeth) This is used for detangling.

Pin brush Good for smoothing out small tangles, removes loose hairs and be used on thick fur if the pins are wide. Usually double sided one side has bristles and the other pins.

Grooming mitt (like a rubber glove with rubber bobbles on it) Good for removing dirt and loose hair, A good idea to use to at the end of your groom to remove any further last remaining dead loose hair.

Its important to know the grooming needs for your pets breed. They may vary depending on coat length and texture.

It’s really important that you make it a positive experience so take it slow, keep calm, play some relaxing music, give lots of praise and treats.

It’s best to brush your pets coat before wetting the coat.

Have everything you need to hand, towels, brushes, shampoo etc

Use a dog shampoo it is more gentle, human shampoo can cause skin irritation.

Bathing your pet too often can strip natural oils in the coat and cause skin dryness and irritation. Once every few months it’s quite enough.

Avoid face and eyes, apply water over the body, add the shampoo and lather up your pup!

Rinse throughly making sure your checking the water temperature at all times it’s should be Luke warm.

Towel dry your dog, its likely he/she will shakes LOTS

You can dry them using a hairdryer just make sure your pet isn’t afraid of this if they are stop and leave them to dry naturally.

If they are happy with the hairdryer then make sure it’s on the coolest setting and don’t focus on one are, move the hairdryer around.

Once fully dry spritz with a doggy deodoriser spray some of our brides have used the Pet head products and they smell divine.

Do you have a fave shampoo?

We love Safe4 3 in 1 shampoo because it’s antibacterial, it’s soothes and calms skin and contains conditioner.  It smells so sweet like raspberries.

You can buy it from the Pdsa pet store online.

Minimal dog Shampoo. This is a an eco dog shampoo, you can refill the bottle from your local eco shop. It smells like lavender and lathers up good.
